How a piece is made

From riverbed to table,
four honest steps.

  1. Clay source

Eco-sourced stoneware clay from audited suppliers in Rajasthan and Gujarat. Wedged by hand the morning we use it.

  2. Wheel or hand-build

Thrown on the wheel or built coil by coil. Every form trimmed, signed and dated by its maker.

  3. Glaze

Lead-free, food-safe glazes mixed in-house. Dipped, poured or brushed in two coats.

  4. Kiln fire

Bisque at 950°C, glaze-fired to 1220°C. The kiln opens after 48 hours. We still get excited every time.

What people say

Conversations, not transactions.

"Ananya ate at our restaurant three times before she touched any clay. The plates feel like they grew out of the menu."
Chef Varun Khanna Head Chef, Bageecha, Mehrauli
"We ordered a 40-piece wedding set. Every plate is slightly different and that is exactly the point. Guests still ask about them."
Meera Subramaniam Bespoke client, Gurgaon
"I came for one Saturday session in 2023. I now have a shelf of my own bowls and a standing seat at the wheel."

The studio

A working space in
Hauz Khas Village.

The studio is a working space. The floor has clay on it, the shelves hold work in every stage, and the showroom sits beside the kilns. Walk in during open hours, watch a piece being thrown, and ask anything. Founded by Ananya Deshpande in 2019, Mitti & Co is a team of five makers.

Keep what you make.

Two hours, one wheel, all materials included. We glaze and fire your piece, then you collect it in about three weeks. No experience needed, and most first-timers leave with a bowl they actually use.

Common questions

Before you visit.

Can I bring kids?

Yes, from age 8 with an adult at the next wheel. Hand-building sessions suit younger kids better than the wheel. Tell us ages when you book and we set up accordingly.

Do I need experience?

No. Most people at our Saturday sessions have never touched clay. An instructor sits with you for your first centering, and the clay forgives almost everything.

How long until my custom order arrives?

Four to six weeks for most bespoke orders, eight to ten for full restaurant lines. Clay dries at its own pace and we fire on a fixed kiln schedule, so we quote a date when you order and we hold to it.

Can we do private group sessions?

Yes. We host teams, birthdays and wedding parties of 6 to 14 people, usually on Sunday when the studio is otherwise closed. Write to hello@mittiandco.in with your date and group size.
